Madrid, Spain, February 23, 1981. A group of Civil Guards storm into the Congress of Deputies and terrorize those present by firing shots into the air. Only three men remain unmoved: Prime Minister Adolfo Suárez; Vice President Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado; and Santiago Carrillo, leader of the Communist Party.

The Basque Country, Spain, 1980s. In an atmosphere of tension and fear, where the harassment of separatist nationalism and the violence of ETA terrorist gang are a constant in life, Eloy, a young civil guard from Madrid, arrives at the Intxaurrondo base, in San Sebastián, as a volunteer; a hostile environment that causes havoc among his companions: alcoholism, depression and suicides reign. The so-called “Northern Syndrome” kills as much as bombs do.

A Sergeant of the Civil Guard and his subordinate are tasked to reopen the inquiry on the death of a young man in a Canary Island. The last person who saw him alive, a corporal of the Civil Guard, will help them to clarify the case.

During the '80s, a young man named Frankie dreams of escaping London's South East region, and his mother's thug of a boyfriend gives him just the opportunity. After beating up the abusive beau, Frankie runs off to Spain, where he lands a job delivering a package to the dapper Playboy Charlie, a gangster who takes him under his wing. Working as Charlie's driver, Frankie is immersed in a world of fast cars and pretty women -- but all the excess could be his undoing.

Two speleologists, Esteban and Pedro, travel to a mountainous area located in northern Spain, near a small village, to study a newly discovered cave and determine if it is of scientific interest, while Gabi, Esteban's wife, awaits their return on a lonely road at the foot of the mountain.

Finally, 33 years later, the whole truth behind the attempted coup d'état that shook Spain on the afternoon of February 23, 1981, is revealed by those who lived through those dreadful hours; a deep look behind the heavy curtain which hides the real mastermind, waiting to be unmasked.
